"Community service has been part of every Foxcroft girl's experience for the past 100 years," said Karen Thorn Lilly, a 1984 graduate who chairs the Centennial Day of Service Committee. "I cannot think of a more appropriate way to honor the school than to join other Foxcroft women from across the generations to engage collectively in community service."
Hundreds of breast health supporters, cancer survivors, 家庭, and friends — including four-legged ones — are expected at Foxcroft for what is a uniquely local event that began in 2007 as "Nanette's Walk," in honor of a local victim of the disease. Foxcroft has been part of it from the beginning, comprising the largest contingent of participants every year and raising more than $26,000 for the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation, a Middleburg-based organization that directs 90 percent of its grants to help women in Loudoun and Fauquier counties.
Scores of additional individuals will take part in the Centennial Day of Service elsewhere. Through early August, more than a dozen events in locations from New York, 夏洛99499威尼斯信誉, and Los Angeles to London, 和牛津, 英格兰, had been scheduled.
